What is the course about?
This course is designed to help you gain a good knowledge of measuring and recording measurements, creating a pattern (necklines, shoulders, sleeves), using a sewing machine (threading and bobbins), changing needles, stitch length and tension.
Are there specific requirements for joining?
This course is suitable for learners who are interested in basic sewing techniques who have the ability to communicate and read in English.
How will I learn?
You will be in a group of a maximum 8 learners and you will be guided through your course by one of our tutors. You will be given handouts to help you remember and you will be given lots of time to practice what you are learning. You will learn as an individual but also as a part of the group.
What you will be able to do:
• Start with measurement
• Cutting patterns using newspaper
• Cutting patterns
• Draw pattern on paper
• Discussion around different material
• Cut materials using fabric and newspaper pattern
• Using the sewing machine- Safety, Threading the machine, Tension, Hand stitching (hamming), Winding bobbin
• Start sewing
• Use an iron
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will have access to sewing machines, measuring and cutting instruments Presentations will be made using whiteboard with plenty of 1-2-1 from the tutor. Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts. If you have any special needs, please speak to a member of staff.

What feedback will I get?
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
How will I be able to give my views on the course?
